Models appear to be an invention of the modern world. Especially when we talk about interactive models and technologies such as laser cutting or 3D renders. But models are as old as architecture itself<\/strong>. As far back as Ancient Egypt they were making miniatures of buildings. And they were improved by the Greeks, who included them in architectural work. Would you like to know more about the origin of models? Then read on.<\/p>\n

The first models in recorded history had nothing to do with architecture. They were a funeral symbol. In the Ancient Egyptian culture (3000 B.C.), they built small houses that copied the structure of the home of the deceased (“Soul Houses”). The Greeks were responsible for giving models their current use<\/strong>. Above all, they used them to explain how the buildings of that period were going to be built. New architectural projects came with a model, to be used as a guide during construction. They even made standard models, which could be used for several construction projects, since the temples and palaces all followed the same construction line.<\/p>\n\n\n

Maquetas: casas del alma para los egipcios<\/span><\/h3>\r\n

Las primeras maquetas que se conocen en la historia no tienen un car\u00e1cter arquitect\u00f3nico. Se trata de un s\u00edmbolo f\u00fanebre. En la cultura egipcia antigua (3000 a.C) se constru\u00edan peque\u00f1as casas que imitaban la estructura de la vivienda de un difunto. Realizaban \u201cmaquetas\u201d con arcilla y barro y las colocaban en mitad del desierto. A estos modelos los llamaban \u201clas casas del alma\u201d porque era el lugar donde habitar\u00eda el alma del difunto. Se colocaban encima de las tumbas de las personas de clase humilde. Luego los familiares del fallecido dejaban alimentos y ofrendas sobre la base de la maqueta.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

Las maquetas en la Grecia antigua<\/span><\/h3>\r\n

Los griegos fueron los encargados de darle a la maqueta la utilidad que tiene en el presente<\/b>. Las usaban, sobre todo, para explicar c\u00f3mo se constru\u00edan los edificios de la \u00e9poca. Los nuevos proyectos arquitect\u00f3nicos ya llevaban consigo una maqueta con la que guiarse a la hora de construir. Incluso fabricaban maquetas modelo, que serv\u00edan para varias obras, ya que los templos y los palacios segu\u00edan todos una misma l\u00ednea de construcci\u00f3n.<\/p>\r\n

A pesar de estos avances, las maquetas segu\u00edan teniendo un car\u00e1cter espiritual. En las ciudades se alzaban estatuas de los dioses y diosas que proteg\u00edan a la poblaci\u00f3n, y en las manos de estas esculturas se hallaba una maqueta del pueblo por el que velaban. En Asia tambi\u00e9n hac\u00edan algo parecido: sustitu\u00edan las coronas de las reinas por torres y murallas.<\/p>\r\n

Ya m\u00e1s avanzada la historia, en la Edad Media, la maqueta se empez\u00f3 a convertir en un s\u00edmbolo caracter\u00edstico del arquitecto<\/b>, a parte del comp\u00e1s y la escuadra. Se ve\u00eda a la maqueta como un trofeo que su creador deb\u00eda guardar. De esta forma demostraba la autor\u00eda de la obra. Con la posesi\u00f3n de una maqueta, se pasaba de ser un simple humano a un creador. Por eso, los arquitectos de las \u00e9pocas pasadas cuidaban sus maquetas tanto como al edificio que representaban.<\/p>\r\n

Claro que el nivel de detalle y de semejanza con la construcci\u00f3n real deja mucho que desear. Ni los materiales, ni los conocimientos eran avanzados, ya que hablamos de \u00e9pocas muy antiguas, miles de a\u00f1os atr\u00e1s.
